Perfect for Surface users and Surface Dock users
Nothing really to add. It works and works great.Has a nice light on the USB Type-C end to confirm there is a connection.I haven't confirmed if it works with other devices yet, but since I needed it for the Surface Pro and Surface Dock and confirmed it works, so I'm happy.

Disappointed Twice Over
Worked fine at first with my Surface Book 3, but stopped working after 2 months. Support sent a replacement, which also failed after just 3 months. I’m frustrated that something marketed for Surface and priced this high can’t last even half a year. Disappointed in the quality, definitely expected more from a “Designed for Surface” product.

So Far So Good
Works as advertised and so far it works good!

Microsoft Surface Dock 2 Type-C video output compatible
YES! After the cheap Chinese Type-C to HDMI adapters fail with the dreaded "not enough USB power" error - This one doesn't!It just works. How cool is it for a cable to just work?

Works at 4K 120Hz (3840x2160), also with Steam Deck
TL;DR version:This uses the Synaptics VMM7100 (Spyder) chip. It will convert USB-C to HDMI 2.1. It supports 4K@120Hz and VRR.I have a laptop that has three USB-C/Thunderbolt ports, but no HDMI port. This cable allows me to connect to an HDMI display or TV. Keep in mind that Thunderbolt supports DisplayPort, which is not compatible with HDMI/DVI. This cable contains the necessary Synaptics VMM7100 to convert the signal to HDMI 2.1.I tested it on an LG B3 OLED at 4K/120Hz, and it worked. VRR technically worked, but was a little glitchy. I also tested it on a Vizio 4K television (no VRR) and it worked at 2160p/60Hz (4K). I wasn't able to test 8K as I don't have an 8K display (who does?). I also tested this cable with my Steam Deck. It worked fine with both picture and sound at 1920x1080.The cable seems well built and isn't too thick. It also has a small hook and loop (Velcro) cable tie attached to it, which is convenient. Two minor issues come to mind with a product like this. One, the signal conversion may introduce too much lag as the chip in the cable needs to convert the DisplayPort signal to HDMI. So, if you're a hardcore gamer you'll want to pass on this and use a monitor with an actual DisplayPort connection (you'll want to use a variable refresh display as well). Two, since there's an actual chip inside the cable, the ends get warm. Not that big of a deal I know, but worth mentioning.I have various other display cables from Cable Matters that have been in service for years, and I've had no problems with them.

Keep losing signal
I connected it with 4k120hz monitor and it only can do 2k120hz, and it keeps losing signal makes tge screen completely black. While using another brand cable, this does not happen.

Not working with MS Surface
I bought a new (2023) Microsoft Surface Studio and used this HDMI cable to facilitate a second screen in hotel rooms when I am traveling. It works fine for about 3-5 min then will start to flicker on and off for as long as it’s plugged in. I verified the codex and hardware specs to be compatible yet it still doesn’t work. Wish I could return but it’s been sitting in my bag too long. Good luck! Update: after modifying the default 30 Hz refresh rate to 60 Hz the tv is more stable. I have to still disconnect every 3 or so hours to fix partial screen lag. But disconnecting and reconnecting seems to fix that issue.

Another great cable from Cable Matters! Works with my Surface Laptop 5 & Samsung Android phone.
I got this cable to connect my Microsoft Surface Laptop 5 to different computer monitors and TVs while I travel. It supports 4K/8K resolution as well as HDMI 2.1 standard. It is the perfect length (6 foot) and the quality of the cable's construction appears to be very good. It includes a cable tie and also has a cool blue light on the ends letting me know it is connected. The picture quality is great and let's me project my surface screen onto a larger monitor or projector while I am visiting clients or onto a TV to watch a movie while I relax. I found that I can also project my phones screen onto a TV, computer monitor or projector using this cable.Overall, I am very happy and feel this is a very good value and great quality cable.
