Functional, but with high pitched audio buzz
The media could not be loaded. The device makes a faint high-pitched noise when it's active, which I think is coming from the generic AC/DC adapter I'm using. Luckily, the noise gets drowned out when music is playing. In the video, I’ve kept the volume at half, so I don’t wake up my roommates.I’m planning to add an LC filter with a ferrite bead to the MP3 Module and switch to an Adafruit 5V 2A adapter to see if that helps reduce the high-pitched noise.

You should used its library
After 2 days of challenging, I could finally use it in my ESP.

Don't waste your money!! the pro has firmware issues!
I bought two of these for a robot project I am working on. I wanted to use the this to play sounds. However, once you hit play all the sounds saved in the pro plays on repeat, over and over. I can pause it manually. Doesn't matter what programming you use in a arduino or esp32. The pro defaults to repeat all sounds. I even bought a device to access the AT commands and the firmware auto defaults to repeat.I went on the DFRobot forums and others have the same issue with little or no response on a fix or timeline for a fix.DFplayer firmware is broken. Please fix.

It does exactly what it should. As with all of these kinds of electronics you need to know how to use it and Arduino or whatever microcontroller you prefer, but I didn't have any issues with it.
