Flawless
Worked perfectly going from a MacBook Pro's optical S/PDIF Mini-TOSLINK to TOSLINK (a special cable) into the ODL-312's TOSLINK input and then out of it into a MOTU 896HD AES/EBU via XLR.Also works perfectly going from a Mac Pro S/PDIF TOSLINK to TOSLINK (standard cable) into the ODL-312's TOSLINK and then out of its AES/EBU with a standard XLR balanced to unbalanced RCA audio adapter that then goes into a Focusrite Saffire Pro 40's RCA coaxial S/PDIF inputs. Pretty amazing, because this could have not worked due to AES/EBU being slightly too hot a signal, on paper, for the coaxial S/PDIF spec. Never the less, it worked flawlessly. Probably, because the Focusrite, being such a high quality piece of gear, has allowed it to be tolerant. The Hosa, being of likely high quality, may have also played a role. It's not a cheap adapter, all the connectors are solid, even the housing is metal -- you get what you pay for. It just worked.

Perfect conversion from AES/EBU to Toslink Optical
Every week we broadcast live concerts on the internet, we've built up hundreds of friends in over 47 countries and they give us feedback about our sound.I'll say up front, I've only used this box for one thing, to convert the AES/EBU output from our X32 digital mixer to optical, from there the signal goes into our broadcast rack and out on to the internet for the world to hear. We've used a Neutrik test set to verify the signal output for noise and level, we've also listened to the feed extensively on a set of Meyer HD-1 studio monitors, it's our opinion (everyone in our shop and a lot of our listeners agree) this box does exactly what it says it does, converts one digital form to another without adding any degradation, it does not get better than that.Good luck and good music to all!

It just works
Does what it's supposed to and works 100% reliably. I use it to hook some studio monitors with AES inputs to my computer with Toslink output. The metal case is nice and rugged. It can even process 192 kHz over Toslink if your source device supports it.I'm not sure why they discontinued this simple and high quality product.

Product Dead on Arrival - Twice
If zero stars were an option, this product would certainly be deserving. I purchased this converter to incorporate two behringer speakers into my entertainment system that only had the option for a Toslink, optical audio, connection due to others already being utilized. The first converter I received turned on after being plugged in, but only output a low static to the speakers via XLR cable. I tested the XLR and Toslink cable and each were functioning correctly. The speakers malfunctioning is out of the question. The second converter I received functioned exactly as the first—functional appearance with indicators but no viable audio signal. I do not recommend spending your money on this product, find another was to convert your audio. One positive thing that I will mention is Amazon’s eagerness to assist me and send a replacement in case the first was defective. Unfortunately I just received another defective product. I will be returning both for a full refund.

does exactly what it says
using a pro tools HD native card with a lynx aurora 16 is working out great for me. the only issue is you can't route computer audio (itunes, youtube, etc...) though the native card.i'm using a Dangerous D-box as a monitor controller and it has an EBU XLR input. my macpro has a TOSLINK out. add the Hosa and my world is suddenly perfect.boom.

This item does what it is supposed to. I have (another) one that has been in service for over a year with no problems. I don't know why it is discontinued - I bought an extra one just in case.

Scrambled my sound
I thought this would be my solution for running sound from optical output on tv to analog xlr input on sound board. The converter just scrambled the sound. I ordered three and all three scrambled the sound on three different sound boards amd three separate tv's. Each location produced the same results.
