Yes. All the knives and sharpener have a place and there is a slot for kitchen scissors.

Q: Is this eversharp? i.e., never gets blunt

All knives get dull from use, good steel can be sharpened to a razor edge and hold it until abused. Q: How heavy are these knives? I want to buy it for my mum who is in her 60s

they are no heavier than any other knives of a similar construction. They are very easy to use and extremely sharp. The wooden case is heavy which assists in the removal of the knives. My wife thinks that they are great and she is in her 60's.

Q: Isn't the wooden block unhygienic??

Wood has natural anti bacterial qualities plus one would assume you are only putting clean knives in the block. I have always used wood knife blocks, chopping boards also.
