The handy size for hand held option.I love the dual option of solar or crank. Very. Bright and powerful for such a small item. I think if Jay Slater had the solar charger for his phone or even the solar torch those items may well have saved his life, providing light in the dark and communication when his phone batteries failed. His phone would have communicated with the mast to help find him. I think we need such devices working with daylight to provide options we take for granted

This is one of those handy little gadgets that's worth keeping nearby just in case. There's nothing worse picking up your usual torch to find you have a flat battery, so the solar charging and wind up ability of this torch make it super handy "just in case".Now, to be fair, as torches go it's not the brightest or most powerful, but given the fact you are not reliant on batteries or charging I think that's an acceptable compromise.Top marks for convenience, could be a bit brighter, but nonetheless happy to recommend!

I'm ready for the apocalypse, which is just as well since it seems imminent! Love the concept and design. Very handy to have. Would recommend and buy again.

This is a very cool gadet torch, which needs no batteries to operate, allowing it to always be available as a light without ever needing to replace anything.It can be powered two ways, either by leaving it out in the sun, using its solar panel, or by using the manual crank on the side to wind up the internal generator, to charge up or power the torch.I tested it out by leaving it on, so it totally drained the battey. After only a couple of rotations of the crank, I had power to light up the torch, which was great.It also has a built in clip, so you can attach it to your bag, or hang it up, etc.I probably wouldn't let it replace my main super bright torch with batteries, however if you were ever lost in the wilderness for example and ran out of batteries, this is the perfect option for you.

The bright yellow case means you aren't going to mislay this in a hurry, it stands out form the background and the only think it may be missing is some sort of luminous material to draw attention in the darkness.Powered either by a hand-crank charger or a smallish 2.5 x 3.5 cm solar cell which charges a solar battery and gives a reported 8mins of light for 1 min of crank, Probably not enough to run a camping light, although the carabiner can be hung from a tent roof to give local illumination, it does drop of quickly and is more in the local light for a days' camp rather than an outback survival mode, especially as it seems to have limited water proofing characteristics, I would feel this torch, is more suited to occasional use, or a standby for use in the car, when you need some confidence in the light working, but not having to worry about whether it has batteries in it and their condition. Looking beyond that it,s a good torch for the smaller family members who will like the size, colour and ownership but also you won't have to worry about them forgetting to switch it off and killing a battery pack.

This bring back memories, In the 80s we had a wind up torch as part of a first aid kit, but back then they only lasted a few minutes at a time after winding them up… Oh how times have changed.The one we received came seemingly fully charged already. The light was nice and bright and while you won’t be lighting up and entire garden with it, for getting about in the pitch black it’s more than enough. For around the home without the power it’ll be perfect, lights up most rooms well enough to see using just the LEDs on the front. If you use a water bottle you can prop up the torch using it’s changing handle, and create a mini lantern for a larger more even glow.The handle works well as a clip, so you should always be able to get hold of it and keep it safe as there is nothing worse than not being able to find a torch in the dark when you can’t see it.I run the torch for several hours to drain the battery. After about 4 hours, it was quite dim, enough that cranking the hand charger created a noticeable difference in the light output.Once it was fully drained. I tried the hand crank charging handle, and after a few minutes I was able to power it back on. Clearly, you’re going to need to keep winding for a while to get the full charge and it will take a long time if you’ve completely run out, but it’s worth it if you have no other means of light.I resorted to recharging it in the window on an overcast day. This was during mid-June, so maximum amount of light for charging with the small solar panel is around 15 hours. I left it in the same spot, same window all day. Tried it again at night and it was seemingly fully charged. If you’re keeping this as a tool, camping or an emergency etc, it’s really good.The only downside is it doesn’t look like it’s very water proof. To turn it on is a power switch, not a push button and has no water proofing at all. While it’s probably going to survive a small bit of water on it, splash proof. I would protect it from the rain if possible.Overall, really useful.
