Cheaper than the OEM tool and got the job done eventually, but the quality is poor.
I bought this kit specifically for the cam locking bar so that I could do a timing belt, cam seal and VVT sprocket replacement on my 2002 Volvo S40 1.9T.I did get the job done eventually, but this kit is pretty rough. Immediately upon receipt I noticed that it smelled like some combination of mouse urine and a feed store, and the inside of the case had what looked like pieces of hay in it. It basically seemed like something that had been stored in someone's barn. The "instructions" are a single sheet of paper with black and white photos printed too darkly, that don't fully illustrate how to use the set, so it's up to your mechanic's mind to figure it out.I knew that I needed the cam locking bar, but the bolt provided for it isn't even long enough to go through the locking bar and the small plate that appears to be intended for use with the bar (visible below the locking bar in the product photo). I just used the bar without that plate. After getting the job done, I went to remove the bolts from the ends of the camshafts (the long, silver bolts shown in the product photo), at which point one of them snapped clean off, leaving the end stuck inside my camshaft (I have no idea why it broke when I was REMOVING it rather than installing it). It took quite a bit of work to extract it out, thanks to the cramped nature of the engine. A closer inspection of the bolts revealed them to be cheap Grade 5 from the discount bin at the hardware store. If you buy this set, do yourself a favor and go get some Grade 8 bolts in the same size, and save yourself headaches later.I can't comment on the quality of the crank lock or the camshaft holders because I didn't need to use them.Volvo wants something like $400 for their hopefully better-quality version of this tool, so at $75 this thing is a bargain...but you get bargain quality, too. At the end of the day, I got my Volvo back on the road, timed correctly on the first try, but not without a lot of extra time spent thanks to the broken bolt. Be sure to get better bolts before trying to use this set.

Works on 09 Volvo S40 AWD
Fitment for my 2009 Volvo s40 was good. All tools fit well enough to do the job. The cam cover draw down tool worked fine and the camshaft locking tool and included shorter bolts held everything in place with appropriate strength. If you need help figuring out how to use the tools within the kit you can find plenty of Volvo how to videos on the Internet where you can see the tools in use.Note: the cam cover draw down tool is only there to assist you in forcing the cam cover to close over the camshaft. In order to prevent damage be sure to tighten the cam cover bolts down in the correct sequence. After the first or second pass of tightening the bolts you can remove the draw down tool and continue to re tighten the bolts u til all are snug and the cam cover is fully seated. Also remeber to only use anaerobic sealant on the cam cover. I suggest using permatex.Don't be afraid to do a head gasket and timing job yourself. Study how to do it, take your time and save thousands. I used these tools to do my first head gasket and timing on my Volvo s40 t5 AWD and worked perfectly. Good luck!

Dont expect it to work for your S80 T6...
Bought for my 2002 Volvo S80 T6. Initially, I was sent the unit without any of the four zinc plated bolts. They sent me the bolts, they didn't fit the thread in my camshafts. To make matters worse, the camshaft holding tools, (rectangular part with a notched circle welded on) we're welded BACKWARDS. To make matters worse, the crankshaft holding unit was too wide to fit into my hole designed for it. I shaved it down to fit inside and guess what, it wasn't long enough to grab the crank to hold it. I ended up having to scrap the whole unit and time my dual cvvt cam setup completely by hand. Complete waste of money. I'd LOVE a refund...

It did a decent job
Disclaimer: The only part of this tool that I needed was the part of the tool that locks the cams in place. So I have no idea how good of a job the spinny bits and the plate thing do.That being said this tool was absolutely necessary for me to replace the cam seals on my volvo s60. It did a fine job of locking my cams except the bolts were a bit too long so I had to get some washers to make the tool fit snugly and therefore actually work. I may have been supposed to use the spacers that came with the tool and the longer bolts, but ironically I didn't have much space.Build quality: the tool's build quality was satisfactory. It worked for the one time that I am ever going to use it. The only problem I had was the bolt length. In Summary: If you need this tool it will do the job.

Great price, worked perfect.
Helped me save hundreds by replacing the timing belt on my 2004 Volvo v40. Worked perfectly to hold the cams on this 1.9 L turbo engine. There are cheaper tools that work by holding the belt "gear" wheels, but Ineeded to replace the seals under the gears. This tool threads into both cams on the ends opposite the belt gears. One of those tools you only use once or twice, but well worth the price.

needed some modifications
This tool is absolutely necessary to replace the can seals on a Volvo s40 and worked just fine for that. I gave the tool three stars due to the fact that I had to drill out the holes for the bolts so they went through the tool. I also had to grind a couple of thousandths off the crankshaft holding tool so it would fit in the hole. Otherwise it worked fine.

Good Price
Nice set for the Price, Does Not Hold Cams On 1.9T Exact. Just Make sure to Verify Slots on Back of Cams once tool is Removed. My Exhaust Cam Was off About 3-4 Degrees or 1 Tooth When Looking at VVT Sprocket, Most Likely When Torqueing

Three Stars
works well for intended purpose but no instructions. Otherwise would give it 5 stars.
