So awesome

If you've been looking for a retro handheld but havent done any research and then somehow stumbled across my review, let me give you some background info. The Miyoo mini plus is considered one of the best handheld retro consoles available. In this case, this is simply the Miyoo repackaged by a different company and then provide additional accessories. The general idea with the Miyoo being, you probably should wipe the operating system, install a better one and then import your own games. But, you dont have to. As is, this thing is pretty awesome. Just taking some time to customize it makes it go from good to great. So with that in mind Im going to go over some things about this as it was delivered. The extra, upgrading stuff Ill mention briefly at the end but not go into great detail about as the internet already has that more than covered.Unboxing:Unit comes with a decent black case. Its hard shell and seems pretty good. Im not going to run out and replace it I guess is what Im saying.Inside the case is the Miyoo mini plus, a screen protector, a micro usbc cable, some cleaning wipes , instructions and a usb adapter. All of the accessories are good enough but I have no intent on using any of them. Its recommended by the retro gaming community to purchase a nicer, more quality memory card which is why I dont intend on using the provided ones.Use:Use is pretty awesome although the provided operating system and games have some limitations. One of my biggest complaints is the inability to search the entire system for a game. You can search once youve accessed a system like the NES or Genesis but you cant search everything all at once. The reason I find this annoying, is these, from what Ive read online, almost come with random games. Different people get different games, which is weird because there are thousands. But, you know what mine didnt come with? Traditional Mario games for the NES or SNES. I have Mario 1, Super Mario World 1 & 2, Mario Kart, Super Mario All-Stars. But not Mario 2 or 3? Thats just weird. Having a systemwide search would be great. There is a file explorer but no search within that. Also the RetroArch OS, is a bit basic. Its liveable but some quality of life stuff would be awesome. The number of included games is insane. Pretty much everything Ive looked for Ive found. Castlevania, Tecmo Bowl, Ivan Stewart Off Road Rally, World Series Baseball 95, Earthbound, Advanced Wars 1 & 2? All there. And then all play great, havent had issue.I appreciate the settings options. Its not as if you only have volume and thats it, you can change the brightness, connect it to wifi, change the theme, run updates. It says fixes, on or off. But no way to prompt it to check. So not sure what that is.If you plan on getting one and doing nothing to it. You'll be fine. As a casual retro gamer this scratches the itch. The Linux Sys admin in me needs to tinker, but Im not in a rush because it works fine. Seriously, if youre retro gaming you should be playing, not mulling around in the OS.What Im going to do and what the internet suggests:There are Reddit pages and YouTube videos dedicated to this device. I already purchased a 64Gb memory card and plan on copying off all the games and emulators off the included memory card, installing Onion OS and then find and install the Mario Games that it shouldve come with.Happy Gaming!!

Amazing nostalgic fun for such a tiny device. Works super well. 2 big thumbs up!!

I absolutely love this little handheld game console from Miyoo! This little device works really well. Zero issues. Charges up quickly and all works as intended. Many great games from my past are included in this unit. Nothing else that needs setting up for. I just turned it on and started scrolling through the games list. The operation and menus are simple, but in a good way. I don’t need anything complicated or fancy. This particular console has it right straight out of the box. Also appreciate the inclusion of a screen protector and a nifty little rigid case to protect the console. Very thoughtful and very useful. The only very minor negative I have, is I wish I can search for games by title easily. With hundreds/thousands to scroll through, it can get tiresome. Maybe there’s a way, but I haven’t figure out yet. I will keep looking for some search feature as I get more play time. As a matter of fact, I haven’t figured out how to favourite a game title yet either, as that would help a lot too if it’s stored under the favourites folder. I checked the instructions but there’s no mention of how, but it’s not a big deal. I will go online to see if I can find some answers on this. I’m sure I can.Overall, a wonderful little pocket of retro fun. I highly recommend it. It is well priced and well made. The construction and materials used is excellent and feels really nice to hold and play with. Go get one!

Works great with most games, just bad sound

So far this works great with most of the games I’ve tried. It fits well in my large hands and the battery life is great. The operating system is very intuitive. The only issue I have with it is the built in speaker, which is terrible. The sound is minimal at best and the only sounds that seem to carry are the mid tone more annoying sounds. They could have drastically improved this with a better speaker.

LOVE this little handheld...

Wow... the Miyoo Mini Plus is packs a LOT in a small package. I own two Anbernics and two Powkiddys, but this might be the most impressive of my handhelds as far as right out of the box. First of all, the build is total quality. Everything... the plastics, the buttons, the D-pad, the IPS screen... all exceptional. With so many of the other budget retro handheld devices, it's always hit and miss (i.e., you get quality buttons but a cheap housing, or a great D-pad but terrible everything else). The MM+ hits all of the marks. Second, the stock OS/firmware is actually not bad! That's a minor miracle when it comes to these devices. Now, you can definitely switch out/upgrade to Onion OS, but I would argue that if you don't want to fool around with an alternate OS, you would be just fine keeping the stock OS. It has just enough functionality and doesn't even look that bad. So, there you have it. For any console 5th gen or prior, the MM+ just might be your fix. It also comes loaded with games, in case you were wondering. Definitely the most bang for your buck of the under $100 budget retro handheld alternatives.

One of the best handhelds on the market.

The Miyoo Mini Plus is an outstanding little gaming device, and this particular bundle comes with excellent extras.First, the included case is very nice quality, with an attractive red and black color scheme. Also included is a screen protector, charging cable, and micro sd to usb adapter. The handheld has a 128gb micro sd card with 70gb of games already loaded on it. And the games are great! There is a huge selection of retro games on here. I’m mostly interested in GBA games and every one I searched for was already installed. There are also a number of excellent themes to choose from for the interface. The purple semi clear shell for of this model is very nostalgic and appealing. The buttons, screen and overall feel of this handheld is outstanding. All in all, this is an excellent choice if you are looking to purchase a Miyoo Mini Plus.
