Versatile, well thought out, and high quality soothing ambient sound machine.
So far, after about 3 months of use, this device has helped me block out distracting noises whether to fall asleep or concentrate on reading material. The unit works well. Many nice features. I don't often review items, but I think this device is worth the extra money. Its main strength: Versatility. You get many nature sounds (stream, meadow, waterfall, ocean), "baby" sounds (heartbeat, underwater (intra-uterine and ocean?), white, pink, and brown noise (some subtle distinctions), rides, fans, crowds, "meditation" (a kind of electro synth sound), and homes. Each of these has 4 variations. For those with a headphone jack there is an auxiliary port so you can listen to your music or whatever via the speaker which is plenty powerful for its purpose. Too bad if you don't have a jack.Headphone port2 charging portsVolume control buttons- one each for up and down.A button that activates the "adaptive" mode which automatically increases or decreases volume in proportion to ambient noise level. It actually works.LEDs light up when you touch a button and turn off after 15 seconds.Timer option to turn off at 30,60,90, or 120 minutes.Large easy to feel and control knob and buttons.Good sound quality. They went out of the way to get legit sounds professionally recorded. This does not imply that the speaker quality is on par with a Sony, JBL, or Bose portable speaker.Other considerations: This does not have the solid build feel of a device that is meant for the abuses of travel. It's also a bit bulky to haul around. I would keep this device at home unless you can treat it nicely. Nor does it have a battery.

Winner for HD Sounds and Ambient Variety
I purchased this item after comparing it with the LectroFan Evo and the Yogasleep Dohm, and ultimately settled on the Sound+Sleep SE. All of them are good, but this one is the most complete, especially if you appreciate rain and nature sounds. It gets quite loud, and the sound quality is what I would describe as HD compared to the others. The LectroFan Evo is more specialized in white noise and fan sounds. Its sound isn't as 'HD' but has a slightly warmer tone. The Yogasleep Dohm is for those who like simplicity and the convenience of pressing a single button. Its sound is relaxing, although it bothered me that I could hear a strange, high-pitched sound coming from somewhere mechanical, not the fan itself. This was definitely the winner for me due to its HD sounds, good aesthetics, no noticeable looping, and versatility of ambient sounds, plus white, brown, and pink noise, and fan sounds. The only downsides are the price and limited portability.

Love adaptable volume option. Effectively blocks city noise.
Best sound machine for sleep. Love how it will auto adjust based on noise level. Easy to use and appreciate the many choices for sounds. My favorite is the brown noise. I use in a city environment and sleep well when using the product.

Third Time's The Charm? You Bet!
The first 2 units had electrical malfunctions out of the box... Feedback sounds from the speaker, on/off button not working unless the unit was unplugged then plugged back in, unit turned on, no sound from speaker. Both times I emailed Customer Support and they quickly agree to replace the unit. I'm currently awaiting the delivery of unit #3.Travel? Possibly. The unit is 6.5 inches wide, 5.5 inches deep and 4.5 inches tall.Sound quality? Good, the recording loops are virtually seamless.Number of sound selections? 11 realistic sound categories, or high/ low fan loops or white /brown/pink noise loops. Each category has 4 enhancements from which to choose. (eg rainfall, rainfall w/wind & light thunder, rainfall w/more wind & louder thunder etc)Timer? Yes or you can choose continuous play. Adaptive volume? Yes or you can opt to keep the sound at one level.Only one criticism of a particular sound selection: OCEAN has a LOT of base... think BIG angry waves on a beach. You can make the waves sound even bigger (as if a storm were offshore) or add birds/seals/buoys or add foghorns to the birds etc. I've heard better ocean sounds on phone apps...I'm disappointed they didn't start with more treble: lapping lagoon waves, waves on a pebble beach then ultimately add more base to emulate big angry waves on a beach. There is no way to change the sounds other than what I've already mentioned. If they ever decide to alter the ocean category, I'd have to buy another machine. Oh well, dems da breaks.I'll update this review after I receive and use unit #3.OK, unit #3 arrived today. It's operating perfectly. No feedback sounds, no bzzt sound when you plug it in, on/off button works flawlessly. Even the sound loops are better. For example, the ocean category isn't super base sounding as on the first two machines.Moral of the story: if at first, you don't succeed... Keep contacting customer service!
