Beano is a dietary supplement, not a medication
Beano is an over-the-counter dietary supplement designed to help prevent gas, bloating, and discomfort caused by eating certain foods. It contains a natural enzyme called alpha-galactosidase (α-GAL).How Beano WorksMany healthy foods, such as beans, vegetables (like broccoli, cabbage, and onions), and whole grains, contain complex carbohydrates (oligosaccharides and polysaccharides) that your body can't fully digest on its own. When these undigested carbohydrates reach the large intestine, bacteria break them down, producing gas as a byproduct.Beano's alpha-galactosidase enzyme works in your digestive tract to break down these complex carbohydrates into simpler, more easily digestible sugars before they reach your colon. This process helps prevent gas from forming in the first place.Key Uses and BenefitsGas Prevention: Beano is specifically used to prevent gas, bloating, and discomfort associated with eating gas-producing foods.Digestive Support: It helps your body digest foods more efficiently, reducing occasional digestive discomfort.Wide Range of Foods: While commonly associated with beans, Beano can help with a variety of foods, including:Vegetables: Broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, carrots, corn, lettuce, onions, peppers, Brussels sprouts, beets, leeks.Legumes: Beans (black-eyed peas, chickpeas, lima beans, pinto beans, kidney beans), lentils, peanuts, and soy products.Grains: Whole-grain breads, pasta, oat bran, barley, rye, sorghum grain, breakfast cereals, granola. How to Take BeanoIt's important to take Beano at the right time for it to be effective:When to Take: Take Beano right before your first bite of the gas-causing food, or as you are eating it. Taking it too late might not give the enzyme enough time to work.Dosage: The typical recommended dose is 2-3 tablets per meal, or 1 tablet per serving of problem food. You might need to adjust the number of tablets based on the amount of gas-causing food you consume.Formulations: Beano is available in tablets (which can be swallowed whole or chewed) and "Meltaways" (strawberry-flavored tablets that dissolve on your tongue).Heat Sensitivity: The enzyme in Beano can be inactivated by high heat, so do not cook with Beano or add it to hot foods.Important Considerations and Side EffectsNot a Drug: Beano is a dietary supplement, not a medication.Allergies: If you have a rare sensitivity to the ingredients (which can be derived from Aspergillus niger, a fungus), discontinue use. Individuals with galactosemia should consult their doctor before using Beano.Pregnancy/Breastfeeding: While there's no information to suggest Beano is unsafe during pregnancy or breastfeeding, it's always recommended to consult your doctor before use if you are pregnant or nursing.Diabetes: Beano breaks down complex sugars into simpler ones. While it adds a small number of carbohydrates, diabetics should consult their physician regarding its use and how it might affect blood glucose levels.Side Effects: Beano is generally well-tolerated. Rare side effects can include allergic reactions (rash, hives, itching, swelling) or minor gastrointestinal discomfort. If you experience severe or persistent side effects, contact your doctor.Gas-X vs. Beano: It's important to note that Beano works differently than gas relief products like Gas-X (which contains simethicone). Beano prevents gas by breaking down indigestible sugars, while simethicone helps break up existing gas bubbles.Always talk to your pharmacist or doctor before starting Beano or any new supplement, especially if you have existing medical conditions or are taking other medications.

A longstanding product generally considered safe by heath professionals for many people but ask MD
The reason for 5 stars is that Beano continues to be recommended as generally safe for most people on respected scientifically validated sites used by nutritionists and dieticians and other health professional. Heed to number of enzymes on the box label before ordering. For adults one is 400 and another 800 for example. That is not quantity but has to do with type of enzyme for digestion and how much of it. Beginners on Beano typically need less.

Helps with bloating
I have a hard time digesting certain foods like dairy and bread. I suffer from so much stomach pain at least once a week.Taking 2 of these right before, during, or right after eating definitely helps.I haven't had abdominal pain since I started taking these every day.

Works Pretty Well – Just Remember to Take It Before Eating
I’ve been using Beano for a while now, and it really does help with gas and bloating—especially when I eat things like beans, cabbage, or anything high in fiber. I usually take 2 tablets right before a meal, and I’ve noticed a big difference in how I feel afterward. It’s not a miracle fix, sometimes I still get a little gassy, but it’s a lot better than going without it. I like that the tablets are small and easy to take, and they don’t have a bad taste. I keep a few in my bag just in case I’m eating out.One thing to note: it only works if you take it before you eat. If you forget and try to take it afterward, it doesn’t do much. Learned that the hard way.Overall, it’s a handy little supplement to have around if you struggle with gas from certain foods. Worth it in my opinion.

Helps
We all know the rhyme. This helps you not have to recite it.If beans affect you buy this and you'll be way less affected (or not at all). Spare your family, friends, and coworkers - they'll all appreciate it.

They Work Okay But not as good as I would like
I find the Enzymedica Digest work just as good as Beano for digesting beans with additional benefits. I know this is a one trick pony enzyme for a specific purpose and they do work, but I need to take more than one to make them work. So moving forward I just switched to a more full spectrum digestive enzyme. This is my use case, if you are in love with beans and have issues they are probably going to help.
