Dahle133 Pencil Sharpener with Automatic Cutting System, Adjustable Point, Accepts Standard Graphite or Oversized Artist Pencils (Special Edition)

I am an avid You Tuber and review all my coloring supply purchases before I buy. Dahle helix pencil sharpeners seemed to be the best for craftsmanship and price. But I always go middle price range when I'm buying anything, so the first Dahle pencil sharpener I bought was the Dahle 155. Well, It sharpened nicely BUT the "grabbers" did not hold tight enough to my smaller barreled pencils. Even though Dahle Company says it can sharpen small and large barreled pencils, the 155 is really made to sharpen larger barreled pencils, so did not grab a hold of "regular" sized barrel pencils well enough, and they actually spin in the holder! Crayola, being the smallest barrel and the hardest to sharpen because of the the wood, took the worst of it, but my Prismacolors, Castle Arts, Soucolor, etc. all have "spin" dig marks, and even my Arteza's have "bite" marks on them. In the photo, you can see the orange Crayola has a pretty deep dig mark all they way around it. The red pencil has only been sharpened in the 133 and it has no damage at all. So, I eventually got the 133, because everyone sharpening pencils in the reviews for the 133 were left with wonderfully sharpened pencils with no damage! And my 133 works like a dream! SO, I CONSIDER THE DAHLE 133 TO BE A GREAT PENCIL SHARPENER IF YOU ARE A HOBBY COLORIST LIKE MYSELF. I have less breaking of my leads than if i'm using a tiny hand sharpener, I like the small flakes of wood it shaves off, and I feel like it doesn't shave off so much of the lead as a tiny hand sharpener. If you have larger barreled pencils, I am sure the 155 will work nicely for you. I can't say for sure, but my Arteza pencils, which have a slightly larger barrel did not get the same damage as the rest of my beautiful pencils.

Dahle 133 Pencil SharpenerFor those of you who have seen people rave about the Dahle 133 pencil sharpener lately but haven't gotten it to try it out yourself, here is a collage of pics for you to examine and consider. I ordered the basic black and white Dahle 133 model off Amazon. It arrived yesterday. I happened to have 6 new pencils I'm testing out, 2 of.each and all unsharpened.The sharpener is a manual crank but old school style like what we had in schools growing up in the 90s. You press the little tab to pull in rubber grip teeth, pull the white face out and put the pencil in. The rubber grips hold onto the pencil, pressing it gently to the sharpener gears and holding it in place. You turn the little dial on the crank to determine how sharp or dull you want the pencil. I went just sharper than right down the middle as I don't want needle points but do want some acceptable point age. You slowly turn the crank 2 to 4 times until here is no resistance. It feels similar to pedaling backwards on a mountain bike. Pull the pencil out and wipe off any residual shavings.Of each brand owncil (Luminance, Pablo and Hoblein) for these pictures, I sharpened the lightest shade only. I tried to line them up as straight as possible. The top 2 pictures are unsharpened, the bottom two are sharpened. Is it possible my pencils got longer while sharpening? As you can see from my personal review, the sharpener does not eat pencils, handles 3 different width pencils brilliantly without leaving teeth marks on the pencil barrels. I believe less of the wood is taken off than with my Prismacolor Premier hand turning sharpener, Faber Castell 3 in 1 sharpener, for sure less than my no brand Made in China pencil sharpener and we don't talk about how much of a pencil my ZMOL electric pencil sharpener eats.I am now raving, as is everyone else who got and tried the Dahle 133 sharpeners. It is amazing. My search for the perfect sharpener is over. Best part is it comes apart easily for proper cleaning to keep it in tip top shape and it was under $20.

Works like the ones in schoolrooms: a pair of conical steel gears that rotate against each other as you turn the crank, sharpening the pencil between them. Like the one I had in college (that my Dad latched onto when I got married), except it's more compact and easier to empty.The key to its usefulness is the pull-out gripper plate. Press the gray button (in the front corner of the faceplate), pull the plate away from the body of the sharpener, insert the pencil, and release the button. (This sort of sounds like it takes 3 hands, but I did it without even thinking about it the first time I used it, so it's easier than it sounds.) Now turn the crank handle until there's no more resistance, and remove your nearly needle-sharp pencil, ready for the finest work.The shavings bin in a pull-out drawer underneath, visible in the image. Very easy to empty, just pull out and dump.The device comes with an optional clamp to affix it to the edge of the desk. I have no need of it, since it's so easy to hold while using, but if you want to keep it in one place or have difficulty using it, due to arthritis or weakness in your hands for example, then it would be useful.UPDATES:1. It's not exactly like the old fashioned ones; somehow, it does the job with a single screw. But it does do it.2. With the old fashioned ones, I used to have to lean over the wastebasket and blow the shavings off. This one produces a clean, neat point.3. If your sharpener is working, DON'T MESS WITH THE SCREW AT THE BACK OF THE HANDLE. It adjusts the relative positioning of the faceplate and the screw. If you screw it in too far, the pencil sits loosely in the sharpener and doesn't contact the blade. If you screw it out too far, it eats the pencil. Mine arrived precisely tuned, but I fiddled with it after seeing a complaint from another customer.

Get this if you’re looking for a manual one! Great for getting then extra sharp, and without breaking the lead!

Ce taille-crayon est grand. C'est laid. La façon de prendre et de fixer le crayon est étrange et ce n'est pas une amélioration par rapport à l'ancien mécanisme. Et j'ai aussi l'impression que c'est un peu trop cher pour ce qu'il offre.
