Magic back in time (Malebolgia!)
For a long time I was looking for an alternative read to a heavy work-reading everyday. This massive volume is great. A refreshing flashback of better years. McFarlane/Capullo’s Spawn seems ever more relevant in today’s reality. For as much as I was looking for a simple distraction and memories from when I was a kid, Spawn’s storyline is impeccably delivered and addresses (subtly) realities about geopolitics and the sacrifices that patriots make, to this day, to advance their countries’ interests (honorable or otherwise). It’s been so much fun to rediscover McFarlane’s magic Spawn universe as an older person, for I have a deeper understanding of a complex story that I enjoyed as a kid because it’s full of action and far-out supernatural twists and turns. At this price, it’s a steal for a full-color compendium. Also, the size is as the original comics I had, so the details are pristine. Printing quality (at least on my copy) is great.Being a 700+ hundred page comic, printed on a budget, you’ll find the binding lacking. Not complaining. Now, it’s worth spending 30 bucks at a local book binding biz. That’s what I’ve done with my Vagabond, BLAME!, GANTZ, and now intend with Spawn. Take your time. Re-reading each volume after binding has been a special experience every time. Think of the bound Akira 6 volume reissue. For me, nothing beats going back to (and invest in) volume re-issues of comics and mangas.Get Spawn while it’s available. Think of how hard it was to get the comics in the 90s because image was a small, independent publisher. Thanks, image and Todd.If you’re young and getting to know Spawn, you’re in for a serious, cool treat. Enjoy! If you’re on the fence about spending (good) money, know that Spawn had contributions by giants like Alan Moore, Greg Capullo, Dave Sim, Marc Silvestri, Grant Morrison, and Frank Miller.

Great collection
Amazing collection of the first 50 Spawn comics. The colors pop giving the artwork more life.If only they could have included the tie-in comics that spawn is included in. (To give context to why spawn has a shoelace running through his face.)

Thick
Thick! It was NOT packaged well at all, just thrown in a box. The box even had holes in it, but it wasn't damaged so I'm not going to complain to much.Super happy with this book, the story and the art are amazing. Great trip down memories lane.

There’s so many issues in this
The only complaint that I have is that there’s no cover art pages for the 50 issues collected in this. That said, the price is incredible and now I can read each issue in order. The paper quality is pretty good, but so far, there seems to be a couple of pages that seem to lack definition and/or fine details. Almost a slight bit low in resolution. I’ve skimmed through future upcoming pages and they seem good, so likely not a recurring problem.I had a concern that this dense and heavy book might be too much for a softback/paperback to hold together, but this was tossed off my bed by my wife and it held up with no sign of distress.I’ve been thoroughly satisfied with the value and immediately placed an order for the 2nd compendium.
