Not as good as others in series, Horrifying trans case
I really like the Case Files series, but this one has the most typos. Still, it is helpful and has good cases and questions. The one thing I really dislike about this book is that the Gender Dysphoria case is extremely insensitive. It uses the wrong pronouns for the individual in the case throughout. A few quotes: "This patient has had a persistent desire to be female and has always been uncomfortable in his male body", "His sexual preference is for men because he sees himself as a woman.", "Patients with gender identity disorder usually say that they feel as if they are members of the other sex, but do not actually believe that they are." Completely binary perspective as well with no mention of the gender dysphoria of non-binary people.

Great book. I get case files for rotations
Great book. I get case files for rotations, with the intent of doing 2-3 cases/day, and always end up doing about 20 cases by the end of the rotation lol. I did have it on me throughout the rotation, and found the pharma tables very useful, especially because we learn the trade names for USMLE and then you'll mostly hear the generic names during rotations, which is included on the tables. Finally, I don't plan on becoming a psychiatrist, but I will keep this book in my library anytime I need to reference, in case I have friends or family that ask for advice from me in the future.

Sometimes it feels repetitive, when you notice chunks of the book on teh same topic, but they do a decent job differentiating similar disorders, so it's a worthwhile read. The tables on drugs are fantastic! I got a 98th percentile on the NBME - For preparation it was patient-specific reading, a few online cases, and otherwise I went through the whole Case Files book.

Used it to study for PA-S end of rotation exams and it was a fantastic book! it had everything I needed to know. I would highly recommend it to any PA-S out there looking for a way to steady for EORs.

Totally outdated
After finishing all my Qbanks, 24 hours before my shelf, I decided to check out the Case Files box that was accumulating dust. What a mistake! Their answers are totally outdated. E.g. according to them, for Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Buspirone is first line and then SSRIs ... WRONG!

Useful, great amount of info to prepare for the Psych shelf. Get through this and a Q-bank and you should do fine on the shelf.

Five Stars
Essential for COMAT success. There's material in here that you can't find anywhere else for the NBOME's silly questions.

The publishers were amazingly lazy with the formatting. There are typos, and the font is different in the cases' listing. All the page numbers are wrong in the cases' listing. Also, why is the print quality so bad? There are so many pages where the letters aren't super clear.Content-wise, it's good. If the formatting was as good as the content, I would give it 5 stars. McGraw-Hill, it's embarassing. I'm one of the thousands of med students who will buy this with our line of credit. Please sell us COMPLETE products considering how expensive they are. ( I own over 10 Case Files and 3 Resident Readiness + full Tintinalli at this point)

Broadens your scope.
Highly recommended. Broadens your views in how psychiatric conditions are related to each other, and teaches in a coherent broad way that makes the knowledge stick. Helped me in my mccqe1. I recommend the other case files series too.

Consigliatissimo
Preziosissimo testo ricco e sintetico.Molti casi esplicativi, forse un po' povero nella sezione dedicata all'esame di stato mentale e soprattutto alle psicoterapie
