Lean Manufacturing for the Small Shop, Second Edition

Great read- but not quite a one-size-fits-all
Overall, very good read. The author talks about the benefits of leaning-out a shop, but the risks of trying to take it too far in a smaller shop. He also does a fantastic job discussing the human element of running a production shop.My complaints are that it is somewhat machine-shop oriented, the software is no longer hosted on his website, and in our (primarily one-off) environment, I'm wondering how useful a Lean strategy is, but there wasn't really a diagnostic for that.I do highly recommend the book. Even if your shop cannot become lean, it has management advice, insight into reducing waste where possible, and a generic-enough scope that at least half of it will be helpful. The target is 100-10,000 product numbers, if I read right, with recurring processes. We just don't have the recurrence to make it quite as useful as it could be. Any shop with consistent work flow would see more value in this book than the 4 stars I gave it.

Great easy to read book
Excellent book that makes analogies of everyday things to help clarify terms or to help visualize everything easier. Easy to read and very informative at the same time.
