Funky Chunky Furniture 6x4 Solid Reclaimed Oak Floating Shelf, Smoke Oak, 160cm

Fantastic quality product and mounting system and a beautiful bit of timber that I received. Gorgeous colour and finish all round.Arrived well packaged and thoroughly bubble wrapped but, as you'd expect with a large solid piece of oak, be warned it has the dead weight and all the easy manoeuvrability of a plastic wrapped corpse.Allegedly.Oh, and your postman will hate you even more than he already does.Mounting was a doddle, though rather than utilise the lovely YouTube guide video directions this company thoughtfully provide, I confess I chose to completely ignore them and created and made use of a thin card template of the back to transfer the exact dead centres of the mount holes to the wall to ensure I could get it exactly level and only have to drill holes 4 times. I hate hammer drilling into masonry.In spite of this I still managed to put the bloody thing on upside down with the side I wanted on top on the bottom so there we are.Turns out I actually prefer the side I've got facing up now.Surprisingly easy how un-fussed one can be when the stark choice is to drill 4 new holes and try to extract hammered in Rawl plugs without ripping the wall skimming off in great swathes.For your sanity, ease of mounting and to account for the average person's lack of elite masonry drilling skills, the mounting pegs, when you get that far, are rotationally off centre meaning you have some adjustment grace on all mounting points to make sure that, unless you have the drilling skills of Helen Keller, you'll get your new mantelpiece in place and solidly fitted.Finished product looks absolutely MINT on the wall. Very pleased and smug indeed.

Hmm tough one this, the mantle arrived as described but note the smaller sizes in mm in the description as it’s not a true 6x4. Mine arrived soaking wet and I mean absolutely dripping inside it’s packaging. Left it in the house to dry out for a few weeks and my moisture meter was still reading 30+% moisture content so I’m guessing this wasn’t cut from a seasoned piece of oak. During the weeks before fitting this oak beam has developed quite a few drying cracks some of which are quite deep. I bit the bullet and fitted a few days ago so time will tell how it fairs above the fire and what will happen when it really drys out.

Finishes off the appearance of our lounge with its new Stove, looks great at Christmas with the stockings.

I know it's natural wood but got alot of deep long cracks. Had People over once I finished fitting it an they all day is it safe looks like its crack an am I sure it's not going to split off 😡 but looks well apart from the cracks

Good but tricky to install as you need to drill new holes in the mantle to line them up to the studs.Hardware could be better if it was a plate v individual prongs to hang the mantle.

Product is great value, it would be better if it came dryer as the splitting is quite excessive and worrying.Also the colour does lighten as it drys.

Very happy with this purchase. It's made such a difference to our fire place and looks brilliant. I would definitely reccomend this. It's a bit tricky to fit, but ok if you give yourself enough time to work it out.

I can't give more than 3 start for the shelf. It is great chunk of wood, but not a great shelf.My shelf started with a lot of cracks, some of them were too deep almost after 2 weeks.The seller told that it is a normal condition to dry for the real wood, and replaced my shelf by a new one.However, the new was not finished and required to me a lot of effort (sanding, cleaning, waxing ) to bring chunk of wood to a normal condition.And it not prevent from cracking everywhere once again, because the chunk is not dried yet to the final equilibrium stage (exactly what the seller said).Unfortunately, it looks like description of the product is not completely right.
