Very well thought of story line with a lot of ideas to think about
I didn't know anything about this book or the author, just saw the book in a local bookstore, then checked the rating on Amazon and bought it. I did not read any of the customer reviews to not spoil the reading for me. My own impression was very good. Still in the middle of the 3rd book (Death's End) but I am sure it won't disappoint. I am impressed by the content of the books, so far "The Dark Forest" is the best. All the books have so many ideas that one can just think about for days, and some of these ideas come with Liu Cixin's interpretation and contemplation, which are well within the reasoning and logic boundaries, but still make one think deeper about essential questions. The storyline is also well preserved throughout the books, although they go back and forth in time, but still nothing confusing, just filling in more details, which I would think were not necessary, but after reading I got surprised at how deep he thought about all the details that he's able to provide so much without making it sound like nonsense or boring. After completing the 2nd book, I read some reviews on goodreads, and a lot of people claimed to have been disappointed, mostly because of the story not being good and the characters very dry and artificial, some accused him of misogyny and sexism. My take on this is if you really want to read this book as a masterpiece of literature and you're looking for all the sophisticated details in characters and scene descriptions, you better skip this set and just read something from Dostoevsky or Leo Tolstoy, but if you are curious about interesting content and fascinating ideas about both everyday things you even don't stop to think about and things that you don't think about because you can't even start imagining such things, then this book is well worth the money and the time.Hope this helps!

Great story telling.
I watched the show on Netflix before I knew of the books. Normally I wouldn't then read the books, but I love this story so much I wanted to. The books are great. They’re much more technical than my education allows me to comprehend completely, but I think seeing the show first actually helped me with this. I’m in the middle of the first book and looking forward to the others. Definitely recommend. This author is wonderful.

Be Careful What Messages You Are Sending Out to the Galaxy!
Last year I watched a series on Netflix called "Three Body Problem" that blew me away. I started reading the books after a friend told me that the books were even better than the series. The story, written by Chinese author Liu Cixin, begins with scientists in the late 1960s sending signals out into space looking for signs of other civilizations. A Chinese team figures out a way to amplify their message. Years later, they receive a response from an alien on another world--warning them to stop communicating, or else the leaders of that world will come to colonize Earth. Unfortunately for Earth, the member of the team that receives that message is an unhappy astrophysicist whose father had been killed during the Communist takeover of China. She sends a second message welcoming the invaders!I'm on Book 3 of the trilogy, and I think I'm going to give the trilogy 4 stars, even though I'm struggling a bit with Books 2 and 3. Book 1 reads like an actual story that mostly tracks with the Netflix series. Books 2 and 3 are more like collections of interrelated short stories that fill in details and keep the story moving forward, but that also flip back and forth in time and across space so much that it becomes a little hard to follow at times. If you like really technical, "hard" science fiction, and don't mind jumping around in time and space, this is a good trilogy to read! Also, I just saw a commercial that Season 2 of Three Body Problem will be coming out soon on Netflix!

Look Forward to Reading More Each Day
Well-written, intriguing, and highly original science fiction trilogy. It reflects modern world concerns and tech capabilities. That it’s written by a Chinese author makes it even more interesting.

A Masterpiece of Modern Science Fiction
This is one of the best works of science fiction I've ever read. This will be a series to rival the foundation, dune , or the culture series. So creative, so interesting, so well written and translated. I found myself taken aback over and over again by the intricacy of this story and the daring with which it faced the logical outcomes of modern philosophy and the trajectory of progress. At the end of the book I was left with a deep feeling of gratitude. I realized no matter the powers or extent of progress there will never be a time more precious than the present because we imbue it with meaning by choosing to be present. There is nothing better than being in your time. The characters in this book struggle with this choice and through then one can realize the same choice is already ours to make far before technology makes that choice for us.A more powerful tour de force than Niche could ever have dreamed of.

A great sci-fi trilogy!
Great science fiction from a Chinese author. A terrific series both in book form and on Amazon Prime (Season 1).
