Great for DeQuervain's Tendonitis.
I have a tendonitis in my hands, recurring mostly in my thumbs (DeQuervain's) and this splint works great to stabilize the area. Build quality is excellent for occasional/frequent use with moderate activity such as general retail work, daily household tasks, and just out-and-about (DO NOT attempt to use a knife however); I would not wear it for heavy work or in an industrial environment without additional protection. My 4-star rating is because I had to make a few minor alterations. First, I wear an Isotoner therapeutic glove under the splint because of it's somewhat irritating interior, even then I get occasional "hot spots" where I'll stick some moleskin directly on the splint's interior to remedy the rubbing. Second, the velcro is annoying. On my left splint I cut the excess velcro strips shorter so as not to flop around everywhere. On my right splint that I wear most frequently (this specific review) I tuck the excess velcro under the large strap and wear a cut-off men's dress sock over the entire thing to prevent the velcro from snagging my clothes and everything else it makes contact with. It's a near perfect solution.I purchased this splint in late 2009 and wear it periodically as needed, right now in fact! I cannot use a computer mouse in it but can use my laptop's touch pad just fine. I've uploaded a photo with my modifications that I hope Amazon approves. In conclusion, I highly recommend this splint and would re-purchase if needed.

That's What Aging is About--Wounds and Scar Tissue
It's the old story about "I would have taken better care of myself if I knew I was going to live this long". I dislocated my left thumb about 40 years ago and it might be coming back to haunt me. On the other hand (pun intended) it might be carpal tunnel from working on a keyboard for over 30 years. Then again, it may be gout from eating too much protein. All I really know is that this brace allows me to immobilize my wrist and thumb and therefore minimize the pain.Slowly but surely (by the process of elimination) I'll be able to figure out what the actual problem is without seeing the doctor, being x-rayed, and taking pain pills. In the meantime I have stabilized the area and can do a lot more things without increasing the pain level. Good design, well made, and very cost-effective.

very supportive
When I first received it, it was a little snug and felt like my wrist wasn't sitting quite in the right place. After I wore it a few days and adjusted it (held it close to me before snugging the velcro) the elastic on the back stretched out a little and the brace felt like it fitted better. I use it for sleeping and find that it definitely supports my thumb and wrist in a protected position. Lastly, the last velcro at the forearm is hard to remove for readjustments.

Excellent
Although this review is for the right splint, I am at present using the left one. I love these. I have osteoporosis and a lifetime's worth of arthritis, and have worn and worn out about a dozen of these over the years. These are the best I have ever worn. They are very comfortable, highly adjustable, and made it possible for me to forgo a cast from multiple fractures and sprains in my left hand and wrist. I'm a slow healer, so I'll be wearing this through the holidays. I'm grateful to have found something I'll be comfortable in for so long.

Not built to last
I got this to reduce the use of my thumb due to mommy's thumb. I didn't wear this that much as it was kind restricting especially for typing and mousing. It does a good job bracing your wrist and thumb. After about 2 weeks of periodic use, the nylon mess was seperating from the seam where the metal plate inserts into. Package was boxed and professional, but build quality is not superior. I would not recommend this.

It supported my broken wrist very well after I removed the cast. Be careful with the fit on the thumb because it eventually begins to pinch between the thumb and forefinger.

My husband had lots of pain in his thumb from work. He used this splint for a couple weeks, and the pain has subsided. It really immobilizes the thumb and wrist quite well.

It works well. Wear it mainly for the night when sleeping. Yes the Velcro is a pain in the butt, things get pulled and stuck. However to relieve the pain and movement of the wrist and thumb you have to use till surgery is able to be done. Just trim off the extra long part of the Velcro that is not in use. The metal bar works to stop the movement of your wrist well.

Awesome product. Two aluminum inserts hold the thumb and wrist joints securely. Might not be enough flex to give a person dexterity to use fingers with thumb. I use mine when sleeping and it works perfectly. Three wrist straps and one thumb strap. Works for me.
